LatinX Book Festival is coming!

Just a heads up y'all that the LatinX Book Festival will be December 4-5, 2020. I am so pumped about this event! As some of you may know we send our kids to an awesome public school with a bilingual program that supports Spanish speaking kids learning English and integrate smoothly into our educational system. This program has been one of the highlights of my kids' educational experiences thus far. Our bilingual teachers are amazing, passionate educators who make families of all backgrounds feel at home in their classrooms. Nothing fills my heart with more joy than hearing our children sing songs together in English and Spanish. It makes me feel optimistic about the world and so happy to just be a human being existing in this moment.

My time experiencing and studying Hispanic culture and the Spanish language has given me so much insight, joy and fulfillment.

Spanish is a gorgeous language with so much to teach and to offer. It's cadence is so musical, it's vocabulary broad and expansive. A large chunk of my family is Mexican-American as well as Cuban-American by marriage and they have introduced me to so many wonderful hispanic cultural traditions from Mexican-American literature and Cuban history to salsa music and how to make tamales (lol, it takes foreeeever). I've travelled to Peru, Puerto Rico and Spain, all gorgeous countries with cultures that are vastly different, yet tied together by a common language and a complicated intermingled history. My time experiencing and studying Hispanic culture and the Spanish language has given me so much insight, joy and fulfillment. In this odd time in our nation where Hispanic culture is sometimes unkindly portrayed by people in positions of power I just want it known that I think Hispanic culture is an amazing gift to humanity and I always want to have it as a part of my life.

Kuddos to the peeps at LatinX Book Festival. I can't wait to see what these amazing LatinX creators have put together!
